Winter Haven, Florida – On Thursday, October 31, 2013, Polk County Sheriff’s Office undercover detectives arrested 38-year-old James Fultz, 4248 Mahogany Run, Winter Haven, charging him with one count each of: Traveling to Meet a Minor for Sex, Use of a Computer to Solicit Sex, Use of a Two-Way Communication Device, Transmitting Harmful Material to a Minor, and Attempted Lewd Battery.

Earlier in October 2013, Fultz initiated contact with an undercover detective posing as a 14-year-old girl online. The conversations with the detective rapidly turned sexual in nature.

Fultz sent an image of his penis to the undercover detective who Fultz believed to be a 14-year-old girl. Fultz was told the child’s age numerous times and advised he did not have a problem with it.

Fultz discussed traveling to the 14-year-old’s house and transporting her back to his apartment to have sex. The suspect agreed he would travel to Aldine Combee Park on his day off to meet the child. (Fultz listed his employer as Wal-Mart.)

When Fultz was taken into custody, he gave a full post Miranda confession, saying he knew the child was 14 and he made a “mistake.”

Fultz told detectives he purchased condoms on his way to the park. Fultz told detectives he planned to take the child away from the park, have sex with her, then bring her back.

Couple Under The Influence of K2 Make False Missing Child Claim

Winter Haven, Florida – A Bartow woman and her boyfriend are under arrest after they reported her seven year-old son missing from the Winter Haven Library after the pair took him there last night. However, the mother hadn’t been face to face with the boy since October 2012.

On 12-18-13 at approximately 5:55 p.m., Lauren Victoria Campbell (DOB 4-15-89, 820 Vine St., Bartow) and Stephen David Beebe (DOB 12-17-85, 1532 Fox Ridge Run, SW, Winter Haven) arrived at the Winter Haven Public Library reportedly for Beebe to use a computer inside of the library. This is where the two stories differ.

According to Campbell, Beebe took her son into the restroom and exited without the boy. Campbell said she went in to see if she could find the boy, but he was nowhere to be found. Campbell asked a librarian to contact police. According to Beebe, when they arrived at the library, he left Campbell and the boy inside of his truck while he entered the library to use a computer. Both claimed that the boy was with them when they arrived at the library.

Within five minutes of the call, more than 10 members of the Winter Haven Police Department responded and immediately began canvassing the area in an attempt to locate the child. Members also started reviewing video of neighboring businesses as well as the library in an attempt to locate images that could help direct where the child could possibly be. The child was never seen in the video. However, Campbell and Beebe are seen entering and exiting the restroom area multiple times.
Within an hour, officers were able to contact the boy’s father, who lives in Kissimmee and inquired of the child’s whereabouts. It was then that officers determined the boy was well and with his father, Steven Kozacek. He stated the boy had been with him all day and, actually, Campbell had not seen her son face-to-face since Halloween 2012. Osceola deputies confirmed the well being of the child after responding to the father’s home in Kissimmee.

During the interviews with both Campbell and Beebe, it appeared that they were under the influence of narcotics. When confronted with the fact that her son was with his father and he had not been in her presence all day and in fact more than a year, she indicated that she had smoked K2 and said, “I guess I didn’t have my son then.”

Campbell and Beebe were both arrested and charged with Giving False Information to Law Enforcement During Investigation and booked into the Polk County Jail. Campbell, who is being held without bond, has an extensive history including drug charges, grand theft, petit theft, larceny and failure to appear. Beebe is being held on $500 bond.

WHAT IS K2?

Synthetic marijuana is a designer drug in which herbs, incense or other leafy materials are sprayed with lab-synthesized liquid chemicals to mimic the effect of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive ingredient in the naturally grown marijuana plant (cannabis sativa). Synthetic marijuana, also known by the name of “Spice” or “K2” first became available in the U.S. in 2008. It was frequently marketed as an incense in colorful three ounce pouches and labeled “not for human consumption”. Spice or K2 became increasingly popular with high school students and young adults because it was legally obtainable from convenience stores, smoke shops, and online – until July 2012 when a national ban was enacted against the sale of synthetic cannabinoids in the U.S.1

Popular belief is that synthetic marijuana is safe, non-toxic, and elicits a psychoactive (mind-altering) effect similar to regular marijuana. However, case reports and surveys have identified serious toxicities that occur with use of synthetic marijuana, and some users have required emergency room treatment. The chemicals synthesized for the production of synthetic pot can be more potent than natural THC found in marijuana, and may have more dangerous side effects.

A combination of customers, friends and employee’s bring Christmas to local children through The Mission of Winter Haven

By Carl Fish

Winter Haven, Florida – Local businessman B.J. Mannix will be the first person to tell you “this isn’t about my business”. So we won’t be mentioning the business name in this article, but I’m sure those people that are his customers, friends or blessed by this man’s big heart, will know what company we are talking about. And what we are talking about is over 200 toys being delivered to The Mission (Christian Faith Based Ministry In Winter Haven). “There is no better satisfaction to me than giving back to a community that has been so good to me over the years” said Mannix.

The idea to donate to The Mission came from B.J.’s marketing director Heather Koth. “I had volunteered at The Mission a few times and when she mentioned them I was more than ready to get started. We sent an email to our customers, mailed them a flier and posted it on Facebook.” said Mannix. What he did was fairly simple. He just reached out to his customer base and told them that he was giving back to the community and offered to pick up any toys that people would like to donate with him. The customers had until the 13th of December to leave the items at a predetermined place and he would pick them up. The results were fantastic. Over 50 customers, friends and B.J.’s wonderful employee’s collect over 200 toys. Those toys were delivered to The Mission on Monday morning December, 16th.

“A customer of mine said to me one day that “giving back is selfish. You get way more out of it than you give”. She was right and I strongly urge people to volunteer in some fashion. When I challenged people to give back at Mckinze’s funeral, I meant it. If you’re feeling like life is hard, you’re at the bottom of the barrel or can’t win for losing, volunteer! There’s always someone hurting more or struggling more than you. I surround myself with GREAT people that also like to give back. That makes life enjoyable and very rewarding. I want to make sure people know about The Mission. They aren’t just handing out toys. They give back to people that truly need it, every day, without complaining or making excuses. They’re the ones that deserve the attention.” said Mannix.

I don’t personally know B.J. Mannix. Sure I’ve givin the big guy a bear hug at McKinze Clayton’s funeral and shook his hand a couple of times, but were not buddies per say. However he is my brother. He embodies what the Lord commanded us all to do shortly before he left this earth. I think it is so appropriate at this time of year to remember one of the last lesson’s he taught us.

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” – John 13: 34-35

As you go about Christmas, remember B.J.’s words. ” If you’re feeling like life is hard, you’re at the bottom of the barrel or can’t win for losing, volunteer! There’s always someone hurting more or struggling more than you.” Or if at anytime you see a need, reach out to those that you have influence with to do something good for someone else.
